The Barnes Foundation is a 12,000-foot art institution, whose permanent collection features works by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and Edgar Degas. The foundation was originally founded in 1922 by Dr. Albert Barnes, a passionate and dedicated art collector. His vision behind establishing the foundation stemmed from his desire to educate and teach others how to look at and interpret art.
In May 2012, a new and sustainably conscious Barnes building, less than a mile from The Westin Philadelphia, was opened. The building is set on four-and-a-half acres of delicately landscaped gardens and reflects a modern architectural design.
